Product description
"Okay, it was the seventeenth day of June.
As the summer had piled its heat on our city, it had also shattered its beauty, so I went upstairs as soon as I boarded the ferry.
I decided to watch other landscapes instead of the newspaper columns that had been tiring my brain for four or five hours.
But could I? A newspaper muvezzin [distributor] pressed a 'Piti Jurnal' into my hand.
I looked at the pictures, I was about to read this and that when we came in front of Haydarpaşa.
I put it down.
The village was coming into view with its stacks of houses and the docks.
I was rejoicing as we approached.
" Ömr-i Edebî by Ahmet Rasim, one of the leading figures of the nineteenth-century Ottoman press world, meets the reader for the first time in Latin letters.
This book, which brings together the third and fourth volumes of Ömr-i Edebî, deals in detail with the daily life of the modernizing Ottoman society. In addition to the author's memories of his youth, this work, which includes Istanbul as a literary geography with its landscapes and districts, shows readers the transformation processes of daily life and how this affects individuals and institutions, while presenting a narrative in which emotions, not characters, are deeply processed.
Carefully focusing on the reflections of love and melancholy in Ottoman literature, the book promises a rich experience to literature lovers.
Opening a window for every reader who wants to understand the spirit and social fabric of the period, Ömr-i Edebî 2 is waiting for its readers with VakıfBank Culture Publications as an important example of the genre diversity in Ottoman literature.
