Ali bey (director) (1846-1899) was born in istanbul, a period in which he was known as the "molière of the ottomans."

he started by taking private lessons in learning. After completing his secondary education, he furthered his knowledge in history, geography, philosophy, astronomy, chemistry, economics, management science, law, and mathematics through private lessons.

learned arabic, persian and french. Mr. ali, who started working in the mektubî-i sadr-ı âli chamber, was appointed to civil service as a governor in 1876, and worked as an inspector in the düyûn-ı umûmiye between 1884 and 1888.

later, he was found in the governorates of elazığ and trabzon. Mr. ali, whose literary activities were not welcomed by the administrative authorities and was dismissed, returned to the public library, and was appointed as the director in 1895, and he continued this position until the end of his life. Âli bey began engaging with literature during his youth, maintaining a close connection with the yeni osmanlılar (new ottomans) movement.

he wrote plays for the development of a theatre appropriate to western models and adapted many plays by french authors. Teodor kasap only signed his humor articles published in the diyojen magazine he founded with the name "âli."

after the diyojen was closed, he continued to write in the rattle tatar and dream magazines. Lehçetü'l-hak?yık, the first example of the humor dictionary genre in turkish literature, letafet, a three-act comic opera, seyyareler, a humor story, and seyahat jurnali are among the most important works.
