Türkiye İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları Olalla - Modern Klasikler Dizisi (Ciltli)

Product description

This chilling story of stevenson, set in a remote corner of spain amidst the mountains, captivates with its themes of decaying aristocracy and tragic love, as well as hints of vampirism. Olalla, first published in 1885 as a ghost story in the court and society review, is straight out of stevenson's imagination, much like dr. jekyll and mr. hyde. The author personally describes the difficulties he faced while turning what he saw in his dreams into a traditional narrative in one of his writings.

a young scottish officer, wounded while fighting with the spanish army during the peninsular war (1808-1814), is placed as a boarder in the home of a poor fallen noble family for a change of air, after being treated in a hospital.

there he will find himself in events that cannot be imagined.

Olalla embodies some characteristics of gothic literature: the grim atmosphere created by stevenson in the story about a mansion in the mountainous and rocky lands where the dust of mountain storms adds to the smoke, a young girl of extraordinary beauty who is dragged from the world to atone for the sins of her lineage, a cursed lineage, sadism... this monumental story, which has been neglected since the date it was written, takes its place in the modern classics series.
