synopsis: the entry of imperialism into turkey is examined in the historical roots of imperialist dependency, which had a decisive impact on the country's destiny. Based on years of archival research in the uk, dr. orhan kurmuş's work sheds light on many aspects of ottoman history, establishing itself as a groundbreaking study. The book examines the process of british capital entering turkey and the gradual british imperialism, reveals the main lines of the first period of türkiye's capitalist development in the orbit of imperialism. The commercial activities of british companies and the british state in the port city of izmir and western anatolia between 1850-1913, which were chosen as the time period, are examined with details of the izmir-aydın railway, including direct capital investments. The developments this relationship has fostered in agriculture and industry are analyzed, alongside its character, which, on the other hand, led to the unidirectional development and stagnation of the ottoman economy. First published in 1974, this book significantly contributed to the discourse surrounding the anti-imperialist uprisings of the time. with its use of archival documents and the wealth of data it uncovered, it quickly became one of the most important reference points in the field. It has been shown as a fundamental resource in many foreign universities as well as in turkey. The entry of imperialism into turkey remains a current and fundamental work in today's world, where dependence on imperialism has deepened.
