“has marxist historiography died? With the collapse of the soviet union, some have claimed that marxist historiography is dead. however, this isn't quite right for two reasons. Firstly, marxist historiography was, and is, not monopolized by the soviet union or, later, by the capitalist china.

many countries, turkey in particular, had strong left-wing movements that were neither pro-soviet nor pro-chinese. These left-wing movements were also marxist and interpreted history from a marxist perspective.

this third group consisted of various trends. Among these, the most powerful current was the liberation movements inspired by latin america, especially cuba. These actions did not view the working class as the sole agent of history in their anti-colonial struggles. They carried out their work not just from a single class reduction, but rather towards the public sectors. There were different segments of the public, and history couldn't be interpreted with simplistic dualities. These, contrary to the rigid class analyses of the soviets, appealed to various segments of the population through oppositions such as oppressor-oppressed and exploiter-exploited. This approach not only helped them gain wider acceptance but also facilitated their adoption in future historical writing supplements.
