summary: born with the revolution, it tells the story of an extraordinary generation raised in extraordinary conditions.

the work is set in the days when the nazis relentlessly attacked the soviet union. We're in a school where children whose families died during the war or went to the front are sent to learn a trade. As soon as our hero, stepan, arrives at such a hub, he faces challenges: on one hand, loneliness, and on the other, the bullying of the scoundrelly kids. Stepşa, who never forgets the promise he made to his father at the front, that he would be worthy of it, and who is maturing day by day, is trying to overcome all difficulties with his love for work, organization, people, and self-improvement. Stepan and his comrades – dorošenko, the natural leader

oguzkov, the tough guy

and fedya, the sensitive soul – refused to give up even in the darkest days of the war. with a concert they organized, they drowned out the sirens and the explosions. This work of fyodor gladkov reveals the cultural level of the soviet man, while telling how the soviet man, the soviet children, resisted and survived under the most difficult conditions.
