Yapı Kredi Yayınları Saray Ve Kozmos - Selçukluların Muhteşem Çağı

Product description

The seljuks, who were initially a modest turkish people, established a strong and culturally productive empire stretching from central asia to the eastern mediterranean and ruled the islamic world from the 11th to the 14th century. Palace and cosmos: the magnificent age of the seljukids examines the origins and impacts of this formidable dynasty, featuring approximately 250 objects that serve as evidence of the artistic and cultural revival that flourished under seljuk rule. After presenting a general history of the seljuk empire, from its early progress in iran and northern iraq to its expansion to anatolia and northern syria, it showcases the splendor of palace life. This ostentatious lifestyle has also ushered in a new class of elites with refined tastes, who have acquired dazzling glazed ceramics and silver, copper and gold inlaid artifacts as much as sultans. The increase in interest in book arts as a response to the advancements in science and technology was an indication of the importance the seljuk rulers placed on science and literature. However, in addition to the disturbances caused by the wars between the seljuks and their enemies, natural disasters and unexplained celestial events have led people to seek comfort in magic and astrology, and this search has been expressed in objects adorned with zodiac signs and enchanted images. These popular beliefs have coexisted with a sincere devotion to the islamic religion, as evidenced by numerous books and tombstones containing elegant quranic inscriptions and verses from the quran. The magnificent era of the seljuks was an age that glorified the glory of both this world and the celestial realm. The palace and the cosmos not only reveals the artistic achievements of the seljuk turks in all their dimensions, but also offers a unique record of their contribution to the cultural heritage of the islamic world.
