Product description

Orhan pamuk's "snow," which he describes as his "first and last political novel," is widely considered to be the best and most ambitious novel in turkish literature to capture the political atmosphere of the 1990s, depicting the era in all its violence and conflict.

In "kar," pamuk explores the stories of political islamists, leftists, turkish and kurdish nationalists in kars, delving into themes of faith, the hijab controversy, military coups, and the anger and hopelessness of living in the third world. as in his other novels, pamuk showcases his trademark wit and humor to its fullest extent. We are publishing "kar" with an afterword that sheds light on previously unknown details of the novel's writing and publication process. Four days after the poet ka, who has been in exile in germany for twelve years, returns to turkey, he finds himself in the city of kars for an interview. Under the heavy, relentless snow, street by street, shop by shop, it strives to understand this sorrowful and beautiful city and its people.

In kars, there are teahouses filled to the brim with jobless people, a traveling theater company that came from outside and got stuck in the snow, girls who commit suicide and resist with turbans, various political groups, gossip, rumors, the karpalas hotel and its owner mr. turgut and his daughters i̇pek and kadife, and the promise of love and happiness for ka. "snow" is a novel that should be read to understand the fundamental political conflicts of turkey. "one of the essential books to read in our ""winter"" time..." margaret atwood "she is neither an ideologist, nor a politician, nor a journalist." Orhan pamuk is a great novelist.
