summary: Harun tepe graduated from the department of sociology at hacettepe university in 1978. between 1981 and 2023, he taught primarily in the areas of ethics, philosophy of man, philosophical ecology, and human rights at the department of philosophy and the institute of social sciences, human rights graduate school of hacettepe university. he also served as the director of the center for the application and research of human rights and philosophy for many years. in 2018, he spent a year as a visiting professor at the department of political science at the university of toronto, conducting research on critiques of human rights. since retiring in 2023, he continues to teach at hacettepe and başkent universities.
He is a member of the ethics board of the central council of the turkish doctors association and the board of directors of the turkish philosophy institute. The claims that human rights, which aim to protect human dignity by resisting oppression, inequalities, and violations of rights, have often become a means for states to legitimize themselves rather than a rebellious discourse, are frequently encountered today. those who speak of the end of human rights or the completion of their revolution, and that human rights are the last utopia, take these claims as their starting point.
This book is an attempt to explain why human rights, the idea that "all people are equal in terms of honor and rights," and human rights norms as ethical principles are indispensable, by addressing criticisms of human rights from an objective perspective, as old as the human rights thought. because the death of human rights means the death or end of ethics, which is the voice of those deprived of their rights today.
