Product description

Alberto manguel, whom we know from his books such as the history of reading, the nighttime library, and the dictionary of imaginary places, takes his readers on a journey through cultural history around the concept of translation in his new book the back side of weaving. While approaching the fundamental discussions about translation, prejudices, and the possibilities that have not been exhausted, he also draws on what he learned from his own translation experience, using colorful anecdotes from the history of literature.

In these short essays, each woven around forty-four key words such as “politics”, “loyalty”, “chance”, manguel seeks new ways to look at the relationship between the original text and the translation text, the translator's figure, the role of translation in cross-cultural exchange, not limiting translation activity to texts but turning it into a key that explains many aspects of life.
