Product description
In "the child's heart," first published in 1886 and a staple on bookshelves for generations, we read the diary kept by enrico, a third-grade elementary school student, throughout the school year. Through enrico's relationships with his classmates, teachers, and family, we also witness the moral values, class differences, and patriotism of the era. As we progress through the pages, we understand the social structure of italy in the 19th century, and how a child learns honesty, cooperation, and empathy in the face of difficulties encountered in school and family environment. This work, dedicated to children, parents, and teachers by edmondo de amicis, is an original and complete translation of the text first published by fratelli treves editori in 1886. Since that day, it has maintained its place among the classics of children's literature. Edmondo de amicis (october 21, 1846 – march 11, 1908) was an italian writer born in oneglia. he continued his secondary education in turin and, at the age of 16, was admitted to the military academy of modena.
He served as an officer in the army, then retired and embarked on a series of travels, which inspired his travel books, including *viaggio in spagna* (1872), *ricordi di londra* (1873), *olanda* (1874), *marocco* (1876), *costantinopoli* (1878-79), and *ricordi di parigi* (1879). Watched them others. The book that brought the author worldwide recognition was "cuore" (the heart of a child), published on october 17, 1886. From 1890 onwards, he began to lean towards socialist and anarchist ideas, a shift that would later manifest in his work. His writings on this subject were published under the title *questione sociale* (social question) in 1894.
Books published include sull'oceano [over the ocean] (1889), which he wrote about poor italian immigrants, il romanzo di un maestro [the story of a teacher] (1890), adapted into a film of the same name in 1959, amore e ginnastica [love and gymnastics] (1892), maestrina degli operai [the little teacher of the workers] (1895), and la carrozza di tutti [everyone's carriage] (1899). He bid farewell to life in bordighera in 1908.
