summary:It's a shame, it was a word that lost all meaning for me, it was crossed out, it was destroyed.

it was a great joy to know that i had nothing to fear from people anymore and that i didn't care what they thought of me.

A woman looking for her voice in a quiet house.Between the expectations of the outside world, the casual layout of the house, and the shadow of the husband, a self that is slowly erased... and one day, it retreats to the attic.

That's where it becomes his shelter: a place to think, write and dream. The attic is the castle of inner freedom.

once there, she is no longer anyone's wife, mother, or neighbor.

it is only itself.

What they think and write in the silence of the attic is both a confession and a resistance. But this silence gradually deepens - foreign sounds recede, and one day they disappear completely.Women choose not to hear, silencing the world because they're hearing their own inner voice for the first time.

Marlen haushofer's *the tenth floor* is a haunting novel that searches for the suppressed echoes of femininity in silence.A quiet yet powerful inner monologue: a woman's story of rewriting her own existence.

Haushofer's writing is a model of simplicity and wit, but the images his sentences evoke are full of mystery... we can interpret his books through the lens of feminism, existentialism, or psychoanalysis, or simply read them as dreams or thriller novels.
