Product description

What guided me through the first years of my life: fear, horror. When i begin to define delicate hands as separate from rough hands, they gradually become objects that evoke obedience and respect for me. I got used to these hands and even liked them. They never treated me with love, but sometimes they got wet with my tears and lulled my fears. The rough hands were very scalding, but they would also soften up from time to time. That thumping noise that governs them would go away. A hollow laugh would be heard-then the fears hidden in every corner would disappear. And we would have some peace, poor creatures: the dogs, a pair of mischievous negroes, my two sisters and, of course, me.' It is the biographical novel of graciliana ramos, one of the representatives of the 'regionalism' trend in childhood literature, published in 1945. The author is recognized by brazilian literary critics as one of the largest names of the northeast regionalism. Ramos writes his work while working at the brazilian ministry of education. Starting from the attempt to reach deep into his memory, to childhood memories, the childhood gradually becomes more and more obvious people, places and details draws our attention to the events in the story from the inner world of ramos. The work reveals the difficulty experienced by a child who tries to disassemble reading and the reasons for this

the simplicity in the narrative, although presented as the way the child reveals his own world, prevails over the entire work. The book in your hands reflects the world in which the ramos, who grew up in rural brazil away from poverty, illiteracy and a sense of trust, and who took their first steps towards youth in these conditions, were witnesses.
