Product description

"asia book, 136 pages, ""asia – her real name was anna, but gagin called her asia, with your permission, i will say it that way too – she entered the house and soon they returned with the host." Turgenev's "asya," written in 1858, begins with the love story of two young russian men meeting in germany: mr. n. and asya. The father of the seventeen-year-old asian is an aristocrat, while his mother is a peasant woman. Asia grows up within these two very different social classes, but can never truly belong to either, nor be accepted by either. The young girl, who seemed impossible to find a place within the russian aristocracy, therefore settles in a city on the banks of the rhine river with her brother gagin. Europe is seen as the only chance for asia to steer its own course. However, the late encounter with mr. n. n. will cause gagin to change his plans.

The story of two young people, from different social classes and encountering each other in a different country in asia, tells the identity issue and belongingness problem of the russian society in the process of modernization, through striking issues such as inter-class conflict, change, and the place of women in society.
