Summary: This captivating fantasy novel, published after Jules Verne's death, is set in Ragz, a fictional city on the banks of the Danube in Hungary. French engineer Henri Vidal travels to Ragz to attend the wedding of his brother Marc, a renowned painter with a European reputation, to Myra, the daughter of the Roderich family, who have deep roots in Hungary. Earlier, Myra had another suitor, but he was turned down by the Roderich family. This person is none other than Wilhelm Storitz, the son of the famous Prussian scientist Otto Storitz. Are the mysterious and sinister events that cast a shadow over the happiness of Marc and Myra, who are on the path to marriage, part of Wilhelm Storitz's plan, who is using his father's scientific secrets to take revenge? Jules Verne channeled his negative feelings towards the Germans after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, in which France was defeated, into the character of Wilhelm Storitz, a sinister figure. The version of the novel, which he began writing around 1897, was revised by his son Michel Verne and published in 1910.
