Fyodor mikhailovich dostoevsky (1821-1881): his first novel, *the overcoat* (or *the little man*), was published in 1846. The famous critic v. belinski praised this work as coming from dostoevsky as the great writer of the future.

as he was about to be sentenced to death, he was sentenced to exile and compulsory military service. After completing his sentence and returning from siberia, he started publishing the vremya magazine in petersburg. Dostoevsky, with the characters he drew in the village of stepanshikovo published in 1859, demonstrates that the russian personality is no different in the village than in the city.
