Translator: nihal yalaza taluy Avvakum petrovich petrov (1620-1682): protopop (priest) avvakum was one of the leaders of the old believers, who rejected the reforms carried out by patriarch nikon in the russian orthodox church.

after avvakum mezen was driven to pustozyorsk, first his hair was cut off and he was expelled from the clergy class, and finally he was burned to death.

my life is the first autobiography in russian literature, in which he describes the foundations of his religious beliefs, which he acquired during his struggle against the nikonists. With its stark simplicity and occasionally blunt language, coupled with vivid expressions, the author avvakum presents a fully realized human being, showcasing all his contradictions: his determination, forgiveness, piety, as well as his arrogance, stubbornness, and anger. My life has a very important place in the history of russian literature, especially in the transition to modernity with its language usage.
