a realistic, socialist attitude is also perceived.Sabahattin Ali (1907-1948) graduated from the Istanbul School of Education in 1928. After working as a secondary school teacher in Yozgat, he won the exam opened by the Ministry of Education and went to Germany in 1928.He studied in Potsdam and Berlin for two years

while working as a German teacher in Aydın and Konya, he was arrested on political grounds

he spent three months in Aydın and one year in Konya and Sinop prisons

after his release, he worked as a German teacher in Ankara and as a translator, teacher and dramaturg at the Ankara State Conservatory.

In 1945, he was taken under the ministry's command.

In 1946, he went to Istanbul.

In the same year, he started publishing the weekly humor newspaper Markopaşa with Aziz Nesin.

Many of his articles published there were subjected to investigation.

After 4 months of imprisonment, in 1948, he started to work as a trucker.

Feeling uneasy about being constantly monitored, he tried to flee from Kırklareli to Bulgaria in his truck and was killed in the process.

The whereabouts of his grave are still unknown.

He began his literary career with poetry, short stories and criticism in magazines such as Çağlayan, Servetifünun, Resimli Ay, Yedi Meşale and Varlık.

His first novel Kuyucaklı Yusuf (1937) was followed by İçimizdeki Şeytan (1940) and Kürk Mantolu Madonna (1943).In his works, he dealt with the Anatolian people who were left to their own devices, the village-urban contradiction, and the people who died, killed, and fell into prisons under harsh economic conditions.

He became one of the pioneers of our realist literary movement by describing his characters by focusing on the conflicts arising from the social structure itself.Sabahattin Ali's stories have a special importance in his art

more than 60 of his stories were published in Değirmen (1935), Kağnı (1936), Ses (1937), Yeni Dünya (1943), Sırça Köşk (1947). We will continue to include Sabahattin Ali's works in our Classics of Turkish Literature Series.
