Türkiye İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları Masum Azizler - Modern Klasikler Dizisi

Product description

Delibes, one of the leading writers of post-civil war spanish literature, is known for his empathy towards the poor as well as his attachment to the countryside and traditions of spain. His works focus on the lives of laborers, shepherds, blacksmiths, and hunters. It reflects the cultural and political struggles that followed the complex characters of the spanish civil war.

Considered one of his most important works, "the innocents" (1981) highlights the consequences of a ruthless social hierarchy that dehumanizes individuals, through the story of a rural family working on a farm in the extremadura region in the early 1960s. Azarías, a member of this family who has a very close relationship with nature and approaches all living things around him with affection, stands out as a "innocent saint" with a mental disability. This farm, where those who give orders and those who obey

masters and servants who submit to them in all circumstances and conditions in their miserable existence, coexist, is like a "small universe" where social inequality prevails. The innocents saints have been translated into many languages, and the film adapted from the novel by the spanish director mario camus was awarded the golden palm at the cannes film festival in 1984.
