Türkiye İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları Kötülük Miti

Product description

Skeptical of the idea of evil's utility in understanding, critiquing, or reforming human behavior, phillip cole suggests thinking of evil not as a religious or moral concept but as a mythological one.

From the devil in the holy book to the “evil” characters in popular movies and novels, from witch trials to 18. From the “epidemic of vampires” of the century to a wide variety of philosophical, historical and literary topics, the author is engaged in the metaphysical problem of evil, while aiming to make a political philosophy of evil.

The miti of evil is a multifaceted and layered book: arguing that the archetypal evil of history is the “inner enemy”, that we most fear the indifference of those who look and speak like us, cole discusses the central role that this particular genre of horror plays in the identity construction of political communities.

nor does it neglect to question the use of demonization as a political tactic, as today's fashion expression “othering”.
