Türkiye İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları Kont Belisarios (Hardcover)

Product description

The sixth century is not a time of peace for the roman empire. The western roman has collapsed, the eastern is under the threat of vandals, goths and persians. These invaders, who would shy away from a single person: the great general belisarios of the byzantine emperor justinianos. Belisarios, a skilled cavalryman, accomplished archer, and swordsmith, prides the public with his victories extending from the east to north africa, while arousing envy and suspicion in the emperor. The endless conflict between virtue and vice is revealed in the relationship between belisarius and justinianos. Robert graves tells the wars, religious conflicts, the blue-green team fights that divided constantinopolis into two, and one of the most devastating plague outbreaks in human history, from the perspective of eugenios, the faithful servant of antonina, belisarios's wife, who lived at the border of persia, in the deserts of north africa, on the peninsula of italy. While doing this, it benefits from two histories written by belisarios, one is the history of battles, which is about the general's superior successes, and the other is the secret history of byzantium, filled with kindar rumors. It is noteworthy that graves, who presented a slice of history in the count belisarios published in 1938, was also able to describe the people of the period with vivid depictions.
