Product description
İş Kültür Yayınları Exploding Skull and Stars - Expressionist Stories Expressionism developed in Germany before the First World War and was influential in all branches of art.
It began as a literary movement in Berlin around 1909 and left a legacy that could be traced back to the 1920s. In addition to naive ecstasy, cynical skepticism, Nietzschean individualism and the idealism of socialist fraternity, expressionism also included the horrors of urban life, apocalyptic visions of the collapse of civilization, the glorification of primitive instincts and an anti-liberal nihilism. Opposing the established authority of institutions such as the army, the school, the patriarchal family and the empire, the German expressionists sided with the poor, the downtrodden, the mentally ill and the outcasts.
The Expressionists opposed an objective view of nature and society and advocated the reflection of inner truth.
They set themselves the lofty task of pioneering the creation of a new human being, freed from the shackles of a new order and social tradition, who would look at the world with unlimited subjectivity.
This new human being needed a new language. In order to convey their message, they created a new language free of clichés, pushing the limits of the possibilities of expression.
In this small selection, you will find a taste of expressionist literature ranging from pioneering expressionists such as Franz Held, Oskar Panizza and Paul Scheerbart to well-known writers such as Gustav Meyrink, Franz Kafka and Robert Musil
