Türkiye İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları Empty Wardrobes - Modern Klasikler Dizisi

Product description

Maria judite de carvalho, one of the most important writers of 20th century portuguese literature, is described as the “author of silence and solitude”.

he is a skilled observer of the despair and loneliness of women living in the big city. In carvalho's works, “silence” is a must-have element, sometimes due to the lack of dialogue between characters, and sometimes due to the inconsistency in dialogue.

carvalho, who has mapped the loneliness, tells us about women immersed in silence, in frustration.

empty wardrobes is the story of women who are torn between hope and despair, between submission and disappointment, who are trapped under the oppression of the patriarchal society during the conservative salazar dictatorship.

the main plot revolves around dora rosario, who, over a decade, transitions from a submissive housewife to a woman who seeks comfort from her unrequited love, only to betray and degrade into an “old” woman.

With his minimalist style, the author, who translates the tragedy of everyday life and the absurdity of existence into words with a rare skill for his wife, attracts attention with his mastery in creating a nuanced interaction between what happens in the inner world of his characters and the outside world.
