Türkiye İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları Dorian Gray’in Portresi : Hasan Ali Yücel Klasikler Dizisi / Oscar Wilde

Product description

Oscar wilde (1854-1900) from the back cover: irish genius writer. During the victorian era, he became the most recognized representative of the 19th-century aesthetic movement in britain, thanks to his literary wit, subtle satire, and unconventional lifestyle. He gained fame with his works of poetry, stories, and plays, as well as his masterpiece, the picture of dorian gray. As a result of the rigid moral understanding of the period, he was tried for his sexual orientation and sentenced to two years in prison.

he died in poverty in paris three years after regaining his freedom. The picture of dorian gray is the only novel of wilde's that sparked great debates in his time, was subjected to extremely harsh criticism despite receiving little praise, and was even presented as evidence against him during his trial. As the author himself states in his foreword, which can be read as a manifesto of "art for art's sake," this is a literary work where evil and virtue are used as artistic material. Dorian gray, who embodies the wish for eternal youth and beauty, and who increasingly distances himself from the values that make a person human and becomes corrupted, achieves immortality with wilde's rare narration in world literature. The picture of dorian gray has been adapted to cinema many times and has inspired many art disciplines. Publisher of product information? : ? İş bankası kültür publications
