Product description

We continue with jack london's entire body of work, focusing on sea wolf, a quintessential example of naturalistic fiction. Humphrey van weyden, from a wealthy family, is rescued from a shipwreck by captain wolf larsen, the master of the ghost. As a pacifist "gentleman," he will find himself thrust into the violent "real world" against his will, serving larsen. this experience will transform him from an intellectual into a courageous man of action. The conflict between van weyden and larsen is not just a fight where the weaker is crushed, but also a battle of ideas. "the contrast between van weyden's idealism, who sees life as ""holy"", and wolf larsen's materialism, who has no concern other than existence, is repeated throughout the novel, making ""the sea wolf"" a work that can be read on different levels." However, london's greatest achievement is undoubtedly the unforgettable character of wolf larsen, whom he masterfully developed and embodied. Wolf larsen, who echoes nietzsche's concept of the "superman," is one of the most magnificent characters a writer can create, as ambrose bierce also noted.
