Türkiye İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları Business Culture Stefan Zweig Sahaf Mendel-k.kapak

Product description

In these two novellas included in this collection, zweig tells the stories of people who have made their attachments to books, literature, and art an obsession. Both works are set against the backdrop of world war i, a changing cultural landscape, a decadent europe, and the economic depression and hardships that followed. However, zweig's characters have directed all their attention to their own interests with such absolute enthusiasm that they do not even realize the war and its dire consequences. Sahaf mendel is the tragic story of jakob mendel, the darling of viennese intellectuals, with his unique memory and knowledge. A misfortune befalls this man, who only exists in the world of books, during the war.

after that, neither mendel is the old mendel, nor vienna is the old vienna. In the invisible collection, zweig takes us to germany in the 1920s, where hyperinflation reigned. Due to the intense interest of the new rich in artworks, a reputable antique dealer, whose shop is completely sold out, visits an old customer in the hope of cheaply acquiring a few valuable pieces from his art collection. However, he encounters a painting that he never expected. If a person is unforgettable, it is a story that warms our hearts, in which the author points out that the formula for a happy life is to accumulate friends instead of wealth.
