Türkiye İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları Brazil - Country of the Future - Modern Klasikler Dizisi (Hardcover)

Product description

Book introduction text: zweig had found a utopian paradise in brazil, where he fled from europe, which had fallen into a madness.

with its vast fertile lands, endless resources, magnificent nature, and the potential it harbored

brazil had captivated with its carefree and friendly people. This dream country of many colors, where different races live together in peace and look to the future with hope, was in complete contrast to europe, which had fallen into chaos at that time. Zweig's declaration of love for brazil received different reactions.

while the enthusiastic praise of a foreign writer pleases the brazilian people, the book has also become a target of criticism on the grounds that it does not correspond to the realities of the country and does not reflect its political climate. Zweig, who retreated to his home in petrópolis with his wife, had become alienated from his friends, and when his correspondence with other european intellectuals in exile was disrupted due to the war, he became even more isolated. The main reason for him was not only that he was banished from his homeland, but also from his native language from which he gave his works. Brazil was the final stop for the zweig couple, who ended their lives on february 22, 1942.
