Product description

Daniel defoe (1660-1731): he was born in london into a wealthy family.

after a good academic training, he was thrown into the trade.

after a hard and adventurous life of trade, he started writing with political edicts. After a successful journalism career and his highly admired didactic works, he wrote robinson crusoe novel in 1719, which placed him in one of the corners of world literature. Defoe's novel, colonel jack, which can be considered as a picaresque, is published in 1722, the same year as moll flanders, a work that shares many themes.

Daniel defoe brings to our vivid eyes the gripping adventures of colonel jack, the orphan who started his life with theft and bullying, his journey from slavery to farm ownership in virginia, his wealth through trade like many defoe characters, his unfortunate marriages, his participation in wars, and his repentance, all in his unique style. The life of a single person, which seems almost impossible to follow and catch up with, comes to life in colonel jack, thanks to the meticulous pen of daniel defoe. (from the newsletter)
