Türk Dil Kurumu Yayınları Yeni Dünyanın Başlangıcı –Fransız Devrimi’nin Yeni Tarihi

Product description

The respected historian jeremy d. popkin, who is not satisfied with rewards, presents a bold, provocative and new interpretation of the french revolution, which has become one of the cornerstones of western history, in this work of abidevi. Using his experience approaching fifty years in the field and firsthand sources, he invites to rethink the revolutionary history told for two centuries and the actors of this event that changed the face of the world, with a different gaze.

He describes the events that led to the dissolution of the monarchy and the establishment of a new society, the heated debates, violent conflicts, from the perspective of their failures, mutual relationships, and rivalries, day by day, month by month, in a gripping novel style, explaining how the terror of the revolution led to a single-person rule.

It presents the great names of the revolution such as mirabeau, robespierre, danton, marat, as well as the vital roles played by women and oppressed peoples at the forefront of events, such as olympe de gouges, who, despite their place in every step of the revolution, are often ignored.

It demonstrates how movements that set out with ideals such as freedom, equality, and fraternity could succumb to the dark side of humanity, revealing the moments and ways in which the seeds of political and social problems such as nationalism, totalitarism, and single-person governments, which contemporary societies struggle with, were sown.
