Product description

In this short novel set in italy, which has long been a center of attraction, henry james takes the reader on an extraordinary journey in venice. An editor, intrigued by the life of one of the most important bards of american literature, intends to deceive a lady who lives in seclusion but is believed to have had a great emotional adventure with the bard in her youth, in order to obtain letters from the great master in his possession. By showing himself as a rich tenant, the young man actually has to charm another woman when he enters this lady's house. Thus, under the hot mediterranean sun, throughout the summer season in venice, an adventure unfolds, where hearts and minds will be mixed, and it is not clear who will deceive whom, which takes place in its canals, squares and majestic palaces. Henry james, who is seen as a pioneer of the stream of consciousness and often examines the lives of artists in his works, wrote this first ambitious novella with the inspiration of romantic poets byron and shelley. In the past years, a fascinating film adaptation featuring jonathan rhys-meyers and vanessa redgrave has also been in the works.
