In the narrow mountain roads, behind the relentless fog and the pervasive silence, in the silent streets of a spanish town, everyone seems to know almost every secret. What else is there to do but to live in these lands, to share in the silence, to close our eyes together to that blind darkness? The discord between the two wounded souls, whose paths cross in the middle of this chaos, will disrupt all the existing balances.

Edurne portela, one of the most powerful voices in contemporary spanish literature, writes the poem of remembrance in göz yummak, which won the 2022 basque literature award, exploring the dark depths of the human soul, wandering through the labyrinths of the past and present, and amidst the silences that feed on fear, shame, and guilt.

"göz yummak" is a poignant and intimate mark left on contemporary literature, handling the pain of confrontation and the hidden violence within the depths of collective memory with surprising grace.
