Oeko-tex ® The standard 100 standard was developed in the early 1990s to meet the needs of consumers and the public for healthy textile products. "at that time, negative headlines such as ""toxic textiles"" in the press were very common and reflected the chemicals used in textile manufacturing as generally negative and harmful to health."

however, our demands for modern textile products cannot be met without the use of certain chemical substances. Fashionable colors, easy maintenance, longevity and many other features are demanded in textile products today and they become partially indispensable depending on the intended use (for example, work clothes). oeko-tex ® Until the implementation of the standard 100 standard, there was neither a product label that could evaluate the quality of textile products for consumers in terms of human ecology, nor a standard metric that would enable the practical evaluation of potential harmful substances in textile products for companies operating in the textile and clothing sector. Therefore, the austrian textile research institute österreichische textil-forschungsinstitut (öti) and the german research institute forschungsinstitut hohenstein, based on these test standards they have, have established oeko-tex. ® They have developed the standard 100 standard.
