The boot wraps around your ankle to give you excellent support while walking, but it doesn't feel too stiff. The padding is firm—which is great for carrying a backpack—but not overly soft. The only small issue is that they felt a little tight across the front of the boot, so if you have wide feet, you might want to try a half-size larger.
