Product description

My first Sufi book was al-Ghazali's Kimyâ-yı Saâdet (The Chemistry of Happiness), bought by my beloved father in my second year of high school when I did not have a library yet

I did not know al-Ghazali nor did I understand the name of this book in those days

but I loved the Chemistry of Happiness very much.Years later, reading the Risalesi of the Birds written by al-Ghazali, the younger brother of this great thinker, on metaphysical journeys, a field I was very interested in, and translating it into our beautiful language was one of the works I did with great pleasure.

Imam al-Ghazali is quoted as saying that Imam al-Ghazali entered Sufism under the influence of his brother Ahmad and that he said about his brother: When the human soul, or in other words, the nafs-i natikaa, realizes that it is in exile in the land of darkness, in the darkness of the flesh, it returns to its celestial original and meets with the guiding angel. The guiding angel tells it one by one about the difficulties and obstacles it will encounter along the way during its return to its original home.

Some of the works called Bird Treatises are actually some books written in symbolic language to express the obstacles that the soul will encounter after this knowledge. Before this book, which is among the most important works in the Sufi world, Ibn Sinā and Muhammad al-Ghazali had also written bird treatises

although Attār was influenced by both Ibn Sinā and al-Ghazali, his style is closer to al-Ghazali's than Ibn Sinā's

hence, the story in Mantiq al-Tayr is the same as in al-Ghazali's treatise. This is why al-Ghazali's Tale of the Birds gains importance.

The book in your hand was small enough to be a chapter of my comprehensive work, Metaphysical Journeys, but it expanded and took this form.

I wrote while reading to learn better myself, and these pages were formed.
