Pınar Yayınları God and Man in the Koran

Product description

This book, published by keio university, consists of lectures given by professor toshihiko izutsu at mcgill university in montreal in the spring of 1962 and 1963. Izutsu is telling us his thought about grammar or semantics, that he wants to understand the quran in this way. As i understand it, it is an analytical research conducted on the key terms of this language, with the aim of conceptually understanding the weltanschauung or worldview of people who use a semantic language. This is a semantic research on the quran, therefore, it is an analytical research conducted on the key terms of the quran.

Izutsu, in the later pages of the book, illustrates with numerous examples that a research on key terms does not mean a mechanical analysis, simply by abstracting these terms and concepts or by viewing them as permanent elements, but rather, more importantly, that these terms contain their vivid contextual meanings as they are used in the curriculum. Therefore, to understand and even discover the key terms personally, one must first fully know the fundamental structure of the quran's thought world. We need to underline that this book is written by a non-muslim, a serious asian and japanese scientist. In this regard, we welcome izutsu's work and hope that it will be the harbinger of the tradition of islamic sciences thriving in the far east.
