Product description
The question of how the akp, which came to power in 2002, increased its votes in subsequent elections to stay in power and how it has maintained its power for a quarter of a century from today's perspective, is of course a sophisticated question that requires looking from different angles and multidimensional analysis.
To date, the 'steady success' of the akp has been the subject of extensive research, examined at various levels, with numerous studies conducted across different social science disciplines. A significant portion of the studies conducted have shown that social policy is one of the main 'drivers' that keep the akp in power. Social assistance practices, which have emerged from the municipality period and are somehow identified with social policy, have emerged as one of the main dynamics that determine voter support for the akp.
This dynamic, structured on the basis of state-centered philanthropy, has provided the akp, which impoverishes the working class and the people with the neoliberal policies it promised in the years it was elected and then eagerly implemented, the opportunity to continuously stay in power, mainly with the support of these groups. Moreover, while poverty may no longer be a pressing issue for broad segments of society, aid has been an effective tool for building political alliances within the akp's base.
In short, the core philosophy of the social policies implemented by the akp since it came to power is based on a philanthropic approach with islamic foundations that are aligned with neoliberal politics, and its success lies in successfully combining this with policies tied to social assistance. "political communication" techniques such as clientelism and populism emerge as the effective hegemonic tools of this entire success story.
