Mirhan Kitap Araba Sevdası</DNTCTMS> / / Recâizâde Mahmut Ekrem

Product description

Araba Sevdası is a novel that successfully reflects the ideological, existential and psychological aspects of the life and thought of Recaizade Mahmud Ekrem's social class.

Araba Sevdası is one of the most original reflections of the Ottoman modernization process in literature.

Modernization's ability to ideologically regulate the relationship between man and things is described.

Through the symbol of the car, Mahmud Ekrem focuses on the modernization adventure of the Ottoman state and the people of Istanbul by introducing them to Western culture.

The plot of the novel, the treatment of love, and the characters of Bihruz and Periveş Hanım were frequently reproduced in the literature and cinema of the Republican period.

The problematic of the novel, from the time Ekrem wrote his work until the Republican years, the debates on "Westernization" and "Wrong Westernization" have become mere culturalist ideological criticism patterns, devoid of the global economic, political, philosophical, etc. aspects of the period.

Ekrem used the car as an ideological symbol, a means of producing his own cultural, linguistic and daily life practices. This use of the car is also seen in Russian literature, for example in Viktor Shklovsky's emphasis on the car and speed.

We present to our readers this milestone work, the first realist novel of our literature and the first to use the stream of consciousness technique.
