Şehnaz şişmanoğlu şimşek examines the literature of the orthodox christians, who identified themselves as turkish-speaking rum living primarily in central anatolia during the ottoman empire, not only from a cultural perspective but also through a close reading from a comparative literature standpoint. Temaşa-i dünya, which is placed in the context of the culture and especially language discussions in the ottoman world after tanzimat and in greek enlightenment, is examined with polipathis, which is considered to be its source, one of the first novels of greek literature, and also with the pioneering examples of the picaresque novel.
