synopsis: a hidden journey across the lines of history: chiahachov's ottoman letters are often told in the shadows of official documents.

however, the true spirit, feeling and humanistic aspect of an era are hidden in personal letters and individual testimonies. These letters, penned by russian naturalist pyotr aleksandrovich cihaçov, recount not only the impressions of a scientific expedition but also a profound journey into the heart of ottoman geography in the mid-19th century. This journey from giresun to istanbul reveals the anatolian mosaic of ethnic groups, its geographical diversity, its social structure, and the painful process of state modernization. Çihaçov, while making observations in scientific fields such as geology, botany, and ethnography, also boldly documents the weaknesses in many areas ranging from the financial structure of the ottoman empire to public order, civil administration, and commercial life. These letters are not just documents of a period

they are unique testimonies that contribute to understanding the effects of reforms on society, the internal turmoil of the ottoman empire, and its transformation under western influence. "turkish letters, originally translated from russian, are a work that will attract the attention of historians, geographers, literature researchers, and all readers who trace the past." Get ready to read the ottomans through the eyes of çihaçov

because these letters not only tell the past, but also the person.
