Product description
The book you hold in your hands is the history of ottoman naval battles, written in the time of kâtip celebi. In the 17th century, the ottoman turks, who turned the mediterranean and the black sea into their own lakes.
In the days when venice ships were slowly pulled back, reaching the point where they would not allow the turkish navy to open to the sea by closing the gulf of çanakkale, kâtip çelebi wrote this book with the aim of giving the turks a new inner strength, reminding of the stories of the old days that are not far away. The book is not a lifeless, dry account of these wars
it has known to elevate it to a level of literary and stylistic value, to be read with pleasure and excitement, with the longing and pride of those days, by delving into details where appropriate. He not only recounted the wars
alongside the victories won, he also indicated the reasons for the setbacks suffered, showing how to learn from them.
Not satisfied with this, he also conveyed the knowledge that only a seasoned sailor could possess about the establishment of a navy, the types and armaments of ships in the navy, the season and how to set sail, where to take shelter, how to conduct battles, and how to navigate in these matters. The simplicity of the language, which we see in kâtip çelebi's other works, is even more prominent in tuhfetü’l-kibâr.
The purpose of kâtip çelebi, who discards the heavy and pretentious language seen in some of his contemporaries, is not to show himself. First and foremost, it is to warn its readers, to make them draw strength from the old days, to rescue them from the land of shame, which is a bit shameful in these days they live in, and to provide them with benefits. The ignorance and incompetence of the clerics, their envy and frivolous indignities, have not been lost from sight throughout the narrative, which accurately describes the disorders they have suffered due to their additional needs.
