İthaki Yayınları Polimat

Product description

Is the knowledge a whole or is it necessary to divide the knowledge into branches and specialize? What is the position of information in the production and processing of information, and what should it be? In the light of these ancient questions, peter burke says in this book that we should remember the polyvalence of the different types of knowledge as a antidote to the dangers of the separation between the fields of knowledge, with the belief that expertise in numerous disciplines is a different type of knowledge and that every form of knowledge deserves to be written in history. According to burke, polytheism, which is not just a simple curiosity or a general desire to be cultured, but an expression of a real consciousness and reaching depth in numerous disciplines, has an independent history.

polimat presents a “multidimensional cast of information” based in the west center, as well as looking at the personal and environmental factors that bring to light this extraordinary knowledge. Through burke's presentation, we can see what activates polymaths, how they find the time and energy needed for their multifaceted work, and how they gain their lives.

The book not only shows the glamorous side of polymates, but also conveys the price that polymates have to pay, which goes to the charge of charlatanism

Discusses the contribution of polymaths to knowledge and ends with the conclusion that in an age of hyper-specialization we need such individuals more than ever.
