İthaki Yayınları On İki Öğrenci

Product description

“why did the people passing by change while the roads never changed?” sakae tsuboi, a respected author of japanese literature, is known for his works that particularly address themes such as poverty, women’s social roles, and the effects of war on individuals. Twelve students, which caused a huge resonance when it was published and was soon adapted to cinema, is a striking narrative that deeply explores the destructive effects of modern warfare on individuals and society. A strong bond develops over time between ooişi, who is assigned as a teacher in a small town on sodoshima island, and the twelve children in her first class.

in the twenty-year process from prewar to postwar, ooiishi grapples with both the prejudices of the islanders and the ideological pressures of the education system of the period. This relationship, which develops in the shadow of poverty, losses, and changing lives, reveals japan's face to face with war in a sincere and shocking way.
