tolkien said, “it is a dark age” for the second age of middle earth.

"the ""fall of númenor"", which is considered the breaking point of this period and is detailed in christopher tolkien's twelve-volume history of middle-earth, especially in silmarillion, is being gathered for the first time in a single volume and offers readers a new history specifically about númenor." As a reward for helping the valar and the elves in the defeat of morgoth, númenor, which was given to the people of middle earth, had over time become the cradle of civilization and the center of wealth.

he was famous for his people ' s wisdom and courage. But manwë had a condition, the númenóreans could not go out to search for the blessed lands, longing for the immortality of the valar and the eldar. As the power of the númenóreans grew, fear of death surrounded them, their greed and arrogance darkened their hearts with the whispers of sauron, thus the seeds of númenor's fall were sown. This turbulent history spanning over three thousand years would be the stage for events that would affect the entire middle earth, from the forging of the rings of power to the construction of barad-dûr and the rise of sauron.

"the fall of númenor tells the history of middle earth, adhering to the timeline of the ""story of the years"" section in the lord of the rings, using all of tolkien's published texts, and explaining it with illustrations drawn by alan lee in his now classic style."
