was this part of what is called love pain? While i was sewing in the middle of the desert, the sun had set, and i felt like i had no choice but to die as the dew of the night was pouring on me. "the novel ""the setting sun"", which was set in a post-war japan with broken moral ties, by osamu dazai, a prominent writer of the japanese literature of the twentieth century, who was also famous for his extraordinary life, caused a sensation as soon as it was published." The novel dazai wrote, based on his experiences with his poet lover, shizuko ota, and her diaries, reveals how a small family is gradually destroyed step by step. The 29-year-old daughter kazuko and her mother of a once wealthy aristocratic family try to live a rare life in a house on the izu peninsula by selling their luxurious homes in tokyo. However, their lives, which had settled in a fragile balance, are turned upside down with the return of kazuko's brother naoci, who disappeared during the second world war. As her mother's health deteriorates, all her money is wasted on naoci's trips to tokyo, while kazuko will be consumed by an alcoholic writer and what happens to her will increasingly deepen the alienation she feels towards society.
