İnsan Yayınları Life Death / / Jacques Derrida

Product description

Life death is one of the most fruitful seminars of jacques derrida. Its main focus is on approaching life and death from a different perspective: a logic where death is not the opposite of life. Isn't the purity of life inherently tarnished by the very possibility of death? For only one living can die. Our philosophy questions this right from the get-go. Derrida attempts to tell his students that death, contrary to what is thought, is what actually makes life possible, by inverting the classic perspective. In this profound and thought-provoking seminar, spanning 14 sessions from the 1975-1976 academic year, derrida dismantles the traditional opposition between life and death through multi-disciplinary readings that are both manifold and deliberately constructed.

In doing so, he brings to light his own thought, as well as the influence of philosophy (hegel, nietzsche, heidegger) and epistemology (georges canguilhem), as well as his confrontation with contemporary genetic science (françois jacob) and psychoanalysis (freud's categories of drive of life and death).
