The first edition of eylül, which was published in the magazine servet-i fünûn between 1900 and 1901, was made in 1901. Rauf's most important work, eylül, is considered the first psychological novel of its time. In the love-triangle between romanda, suad, süreyya, and necib, the spiritual resolutions of these individuals are explored. The clandestine affair between a married woman and a man who is a close friend of her husband, and the resulting emotional turmoil within the husband's psyche, are depicted with striking honesty, reflecting the social roles of both men and women during that era.
