İmge Kitabevi Yayınları On Marijuana

Product description

This extraordinary and captivating text, which follows the traces of the strange, brings together all of walter benjamin's writings on marijuana and other drugs, which he embarked on a controlled sedative journey in memory of the knowledge he would gain. Although it is defined as a truly exceptional work, only a small part of this material was published while benjamin was alive. The core of this book consists of excerpts from the "treatise on the opium eater," written between 1927 and 1934, detailing a series of opium experiments conducted in berlin, marseille, and ibiza – either during or after the events themselves. These records are notes kept by benjamin and his friends (philosopher ernst bloch, writer jean selz, doctors ernst joel and fritz fränkel, and egon wissing and egon's wife gert wissing) under the influence of hashish. It would be a great injustice to put this work, which remains "unnoticed" while benjamin is alive, into the refined traditional dull literature with its dazzling originality, thought-provoking intensity and inspiring power.

The experimental knowledge of cannabis, which he unquestionably confirmed throughout his life due to his philosophical intuitions that he stubbornly held onto because he believed they were true, illuminates the meanings that benjamin attached to key words such as "aura", "the brightness of the sacred", "similarity/identicality", "imitation", "empathy" and "flâneur". On the opium den: a mind-bending text that walter benjamin should read for those who are fascinated by the opium den.
