As an imperialist country that reached the top of capitalism and technology after the world war ii, especially after the collapse of the soviet union, trying to impose its own rules on all nations to dominate the world, of course. But there is another america. In this book, howard zinn describes this “other” america. After the “discovery” by columbus of this huge continent, the peoples who flocked to virgin lands, the indians who were massacred and robbed, the workers whose land was trampled and exploited by capitalism developing at an unprecedented speed, the blacks who suffered the pain of the racial discrimination of the farmers whose land was taken from them, the protest music and literature of the masses fighting against wars, the struggles of the libertarians, the socialists and the feminist constitute the history of “other” america, “history of the american people”. In this epic book, howard zinn explains how america became the united states, passing through class and racial struggles in the struggle for the rights of the oppressed. He displays the “other” america’s deep human dimensions philosophy its incredible suffering with the meticulousness that sometimes a historian shows in the details, sometimes with the solution methods of a social scientist, but always with an artist’s sensitivity and fluent language. Howard zinn brings his story to our time and presents an america very different from the one shown by traditional historians, by the tv series of diplomats and state men, by the hollywood films. It reveals the inner workings of the white house insiders of the two-party system of american democracy, illuminating the americas of workers, unemployed, homeless, whose social rights are eroded a little more every year.
