"The ways in which Roman Aleviler confront their suppression (considering that they are thought to be excluded by Aleviler of different ethnic backgrounds) also surpasses the dual suppression. For instance, Kurdish or Arab Aleviler who are excluded by Turkish Aleviler may exclude a Roman Alevi when they encounter one. Therefore, it can be said that there is no significant difference between being a Roman among Aleviler and being a Roman in Turkey. For similar codes seem to operate in both contexts. On the other hand, the dynamics of suppression also exist among Alevi Romans themselves. Ozan Doğan sheds light on the reality of Roman Aleviler, a lesser-known community in Turkey that encompasses both Aleviler and Roman Aleviler. Roman Aleviler represent a striking example of compounded exclusion

in other words, they are also marginalized among the marginalized: they are "the scapegoats of each group." They are subjected to a kind of oppression that leads one of them to say, "We are neither citizens, nor Muslims, nor Alevi

no one cares about us." Based on field research conducted in Uşak, the book also explores the characteristics of different groups within the community it depicts—such as blacksmiths, basket makers, and abdals—along with their lives and rituals. Additionally, it does not overlook the coping strategies that Roman Aleviler employ to tackle the exclusion they face and their struggles to exist."
