Helikopter Yayınları Greek Myths to My Grandson

Product description

Jean-pierre vernant, who passed away at the age of ninety-three on january 9, 2007, was the greatest historian of the ancient world raised in the xx century. i know that he was my friend, that we smoked hidden cigars on the steps of the sorbonne, that we sat side by side in malamoud's old indian seminars and talked about physis, that i could never forget his hilarious laughter, his fatherhood, and his sincerity. but all of these are not enough to describe this great man who radically changed our view of ancient greece. his friends called him jipé, this young communist who participated in the resistance during world war ii and saved andré malraux under the code name “colonel berthier”, under the influence of louis gernet and ignace meyerson, looked at ancient greece from the glasses of anthropology, law, and psychology, and everything we knew about tragedy, myth, and site was overturned. he worked with vidal-naquet (another extraordinary person), raised detienne and hartog, this magnificent scholar who gave lectures at the collège de france for many years, could not resist his friends' insistence and pulled it from his memory. I finally put down on paper the myths he told his grandson, and the book you have in your hands turned out to be. i would like you to know that you are holding an exceptional book, levent yılmaz
